seconds slip by as the darkness falls..
silence stinks up the air around..
sanity desperately holding on in vain,
as it braces itself for the encroaching beast..

hidden in whispers, it waits for you to take flight..
yet you stand still, eyes barely open,
watching the pale moonlight,
cast shadows that dance beneath your feet..
beckoning you to move..
just once more..

but time has turned you into stone..
unable to live, you only stand witness to the living..
sinking deeper into the soil,
the elements slowly wear you down,
eroding the surface and chipping away at your cracks..

hoping to reveal,
the glowing ember of a still beating heart..
which may one day find purpose to move again..
