river grande..

i fell down the river grande,
into it's deep murky waters..
spinning out of control,
barely keeping my head above the water..
the under currents were too strong
as it dragged me to the bottom..

beneath lay a strange but familiar creature..
a usual sight in my dreams..
drowning in words, heart raptures in delight,
we played beneath the murky water,
eyes closed,
finding each other with touch..

as i emerged to take breath,
i realised how lost i was..
i was swept miles away from home..
a sigh of relief, i was not scared..
i have longed to run away for so long..
to let the currents sweep me by..
to not be in control..

the creature disappears from my sight..
leaving me with nothing more than a dream..
i am tempted to go after it,
risk drowning and losing my way..
the murky water of the river grande are not without risks..
if only i could breath underwater or take flight..
i would sore into that creature's arms again..

for now, i just drift..
and let the currents take me down..
